Role Overview: Plans and coordinates activities concerned with repairing equipment, investigating and resolving customer reports of technical problems with equipment, and eliminating future operational or service difficulties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspects and troubleshoots mechanical devices and controls to locate cause of malfunction
  • Perform detailed inspection of parts and valves using precision measuring equipment and non-destructive examination
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments
  • Repairs or replaces defective parts
  • Initiates purchase orders for valves and parts
  • Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts
  • Orders shop supplies according to job requirements and daily operations
  • Schedule overtime and job support to meet shipping guidelines
  • Sets up for and conducts hydrostatic and seat leak tests on assembled valves and leak test actuators
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of equipment, new systems and related technical information to provide a high level of customer support. 
  • Acts as a coach / mentor for other technicians assigned to the repair center. 
  • Able to design / facilitate training classes for technicians and customers.
  • Point of contact for other technicians to resolve technical issues and provide guidance.
  • Works effectively in both an individual and team environment.  Can work independently at a customer’s site with limited to no supervision. 
  • Expected to create full / accurate documentation of repairs.
  • Expected to assist in developing processes, procedures, and guides to improve Repair Center performance.
  • Proactively identifies technical opportunities for competitive valve replacements, retrofits, upgrades, and other improvements. Able to communicate those opportunities to sales, engineering & the customer.  
  • Leads large or complex repairs especially those involving controls. 
  • Ability to troubleshoot difficult control and integration problems.
  • Managing unforeseen challenges that arise during the execution of a repair such as missing or wrong parts, the need for unexpected body repairs, upset or anxious customers, etc.
  • Other assignments as required


 

Critical Competencies for Success:

  • 8 + years of experience in a related field and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  
  • Knowledge of all types of shop tooling to dismantle valves and subassemblies safely 
  • Perform precision assembly and subassembly of valves and actuators to meet critical operating requirements with close tolerances
  • Available nights and weekends to support customers and field service technicians as needed
  • Basic computer skills required for writing reports and utilizing company data bases
  • Move material and equipment within the work area by hand, forklift, or crane
  • Read and interpret schematic drawings and logic diagrams

 

Pay range: Minimum $75,000 - $85,000

Within this range, individual pay is determined based on skills, experience, and qualifications relative to the job requirements. Base pay information is aligned with market location and may be subject to prevailing wage laws, if applicable.
